Periodontal disease is an infection of the gums. Gums that bleed often or appear red and swollen are most likely infected. Periodontal diseases are infections of the tissue surrounding the teeth. These tissues help hold everything in place, and if untreated, teeth can become loose and degeneration in jawbone can occur.
