This procedure involves a removal or incision of tissue called frenulum, a small section of tissue that keeps organs in the body from moving around too much. Examples in the mouth are between the inner top lip and top gum, and underneath the tongue. This procedure is typically performed for lingual frenectomy or labial frenectomy. Lingual frenectomy is used to treat ankyloglossia (tongue-tie) and lingual frenectomy can be used to help fit dentures or decrease tension between the upper lip and gum.
